Rick Segal, former head of Chapters Online Inc., in an interview with the Telegraph Journal, was bringing forward some arguments in favor of developing ITC activities in Atlantic Canada.
The basis for is pro-Maritimes arguments lies on the availability of federal and provincial funding opportunities, the bilingualism in the region (not so spilled except for New Brunswick…) and the advantages in terms of workforce fidelity especially in comparison to India.
One aspect Mr. Segal is not bringing up in is arguments is the fact that Atlantic Canada is more affordable for ITC companies in many ways: labor costs are lower and infrastructures and institutions are well developed.
Their are different scales at which ITC are changing the way history unfolds. It’s no big news that ITC are spilling out of Silicon Valley, USA into Bangalore, India - Sophia Antipolis, France - Montreal, Canada. It’s more and more interesting to observe how ITC are transforming the center/periphery model, how they are leaking into the countryside and bring ruralia out of the brink.
Their are many recent examples of small businesses mushrooming and competing directly with Goliath from the farmland.
